as a+b+c = 18
and a=8
so b+c= 10
and also given that b:c= 2:3
so b=4 and c=6 .
so shortest side will be b=4 units
hope this will help you

perimeter of triangle=sum of all sides.
let 2x and 3x
2x+3x+8=18
=5x+8=18
=5x=(18-8)=10
=x=10/5=2
so,
2x=2*2=4 inches
3x=3*2=6 inches
now,
the smallest side among 8 inches, 4 inches and 6 inches is 4 inches.
HOPE THIS HELPS YOU.
