♦ A triangle is a polygon with three sides and three edges.

♦ A triangle has 3 angles.

♦ Sum of all angles of a triangle is 180°.

♦ There are 3 types of triangles on the basis of side.

• Scalene triangle : A triangle that doesn't have any equal side.

Perimeter of a Scalene triangle = Sum of all 3 sides.

Area of a Scalene triangle =  √{s( s - a ) ( s - b ) ( s - c ) } , where a , b and c are its sides and s = ( a + b + c ) / 2.   [ This formula is also known as Herons' formula that can be used to find the area of all triangles ]

• Isosceles triangle : A triangle that has 2 equal sides and 1 unequal side.

Perimeter of an Isosceles triangle = 2 x one equal side + unequal side.

Area of an Isosceles triangle = 1 / 4 b √(b² - 4 ab ) , where b is unequal side,while a is the equal side.

• Equilateral triangle : A triangle which has 3 equal sides. So, it will have equal angles also.

Perimeter of an Equilateral triangle = 3 x side.

Area of an equilateral triangle = √3 / 4 x side².

♦ There are 3 types of triangles on the basis of angles.

• Acute triangle : A triangle in which all angles are less than right angle ( 90°).

• Obtuse triangle : A triangle that has 1 obtuse angle ( greater than 90° ).

• Right triangle : A triangle that has a right angle ( 90° ).
