A trolley is moving horizontally with a constant velocity of v m/s wrt earth. A men start running from one end of the trolley with a velocity 1.5 m/s wrt to trolley. After reaching the opposite end the man return back and continous running with a velocity of 1.5 m/s

Explanation:

during the time when the man is moving in the forward direction, his absolute velocity is 2.5V along the direction of trolley and when he is moving in the opposite direction, his velocity is 0.5V along the opposite direction of the trolley. So magnitude of his displacement increases in the forward motion and decreases in the backward motion, thus maximum displacement is when he reaches the other end. Time taken for that is

3V

2L

,since he has to travel a distance L with velocity 1.5V with respect to the trolley. His maximum displacement is

3V

2.5V×2L

=

3

5L
