Given

Initial Velocity, u = 60 ms -¹

Acceleration, a = 20 ms.

Time Period, t = 40 s

To Find

(i) Final Velocity, v

(ii) Distance, S

Solution

(1)

Using First Equation of Motion

v=u+at

where

• v = final velocity u initial velocity

a acceleration • t = time

Now putting values,

v = 60 + 20x40

V 60+800

v = 860 ms

.. The Velocity after 40s will be 860 ms -¹

(ii)

Using second Equation of Motion

1 Sut+at²

where

. S = Distance

u initial velocity

a acceleration

• t = time

Now putting values,

S = 60x40 + ×20× (40)²

S = 2400 + x 20 x 1600

S = 2400 + 10 x 1600

S = 2400 + 16000

S = 18400 m

... The Distance travelled after 40s will

be 18400m
