A truck carrying 500 kg sand was moving with a velocity 15 ms⁻¹. After disposal of 200 kg sand what should be the velocity of the truck to maintain same momentum as before?
(Say, mass of truck = 1000 kg)

Answer:

mom is same then

1500.15=1200.v. let velocity is v

v=1500×15÷1200

v=18.75m/s

Velocity required to maintain the same momentum at reduced load is 18.75 m/s

Explanation:

mass of truck = 1000 kg

mass of sand = 500 kg

velocity = 15 m/s

mass of sand disposed = 200 kg

The momentum of an object is equal to the mass of the object times the velocity of the object.

Momentum = velocity * mass

M1 = v1 * m1 = 15 * 1500 = 22500 kg m/s

To maintain the same momentum at reduced load, we need to find v2.

M1 = v2 * m2

22500 = x * 1200

x = 22500 / 1200 = 18.75 m/s

Velocity required to maintain the same momentum at reduced load is 18.75 m/s
