Given : A truck driver travelling at 36 km/h sees the traffic light  turn red at the intersection

his reaction time is 0.6 s  and truck retards at 6 m/s²

To Find : distance travelled by  truck before stopping

Solution:

Initial velocity = 36 km/hr

= 36 x 5/18  = 10 m/s

Distance covered before applying brake = 10 x 0.6  = 6 m

V² - U² = 2aS

U = 10 m/s

V = 0  ( stop)

a =  - 6 m/s²  ( retardation)

=> 0² - 10² = 2(-6) S

=>-100 = -12S

=> S = 100/12

=> S = 25/3

=> S = 8.33 m

Total Distance covered  = 6 + 8.33  = 14.33 m
