Answer:

780 miles

Step-by-step explanation:

Define x:

Let the distance traveled by the car be x

Find the distance the truck covered in the first 5 hours:

Distance = Speed x Time

Distance = 52 x 5 = 260 miles

Find the time needed for the truck to traveled after the 5 hours:

Time = Distance ÷ Speed

Time = (x - 260) / 52

Find the time needed for the car to catch up with the truck:

Time = Distance ÷ Speed

Time = x/ 78

Solve x:

(x - 260) / 52 = x/78

52x = 78(x - 260)

52x = 78x - 20280

26x = 20280

x = 780 miles

Answer: The distance is 780 miles.
