Hello,

Let the truck be moving towards right and the car towards left. And all motions towards right as positive, all motions towards left as negative.

Momentum of the truck before collision = 2500 Х 15 = 37500 Kg m/s

Momentum of the car before collision = 1000 Х (-5) = -5000 Kg m/s (-ve sign comes as car is moving towards left)

Total momentum before collision is, = 37500 – 5000 = 32500 Kg m/s

Let the car and truck move with speed v after collision,

So, the total momentum after collision is = (2500+1000)v = 3500v Kg m/s

Applying the law of conservation of momentum,

32500 = 3500v

Implies, v = 32500/3500 = 9.28 m/s

So, after collision the truck and the car move together towards right, or along the direction of the truck, with speed 9.28 m/s.

Hope this helps,

Keep posting and have a great day!

moment of truck A= mass×velocity moment of car B= mass×velocity total momentum of truck A and car B and truck multiply 15m/s car multiply 5 m/s
