Retardation = (u² - v²) / (2S)
= [(90² - 54²) × (5/18)²] / (2 × 20)
= 10 m/s²
∴ Retardation of truck is 10 m/s²

Time for which brakes are applied
t = (v - u) / a
= [(54 - 90) × 5/18] / (-10)
= 1 second
∴ Barkes are applied for 1 second
