A truck starts from rest with an acceleration of 1.5 m/sec2 while a car 50 meter behind starts from rest with an acceleration of 2.5 m/sec2. How long will it take before both the truck and car are side by side?

Answer:

The distance covered by truck in time t-

s=1/2 a(t)2

Explanation:

s = 1/2×1.5×(t)2……………….(1)

Similarly the distance covered by the car in time t,

s+50 = 1/2×2.5×(t)2………(2)

from eq (1) and (2), we get,

1/2×1.5×(t)2 +50 =1/2×2.5×(t)2

1/2×(2.5−1.5)×(t)2 =50

1/2×1×(t)2 =50

(t)2 =2×50=100

 t = 10s.

Hence the car will catch the truck in 10 second 's time
