Water and alkaline-based shampoos cause the scales on our scalp (called cuticles) to open, exposing the interior of your hair shafts. Ideally, the cuticles should be closed to protect it from harmful elements and retain moisture. Alkaline pH of hair products may also increase the negative electrical charge of the hair fiber surface and, therefore, increase friction between the fibers that can lead to cuticle damage and fiber breakage. So it is better to select a low pH shampoo.
