According to 1st Condition,

x+y=180°...(1)

According to 2nd Condition,

x-40=3y

thus, x-3y=40°...(2)

Adding Equation (1) and (2),

x gets cancelled

-2y=220°

y=110°

Substituting y=110° in eqn (1)

x+110=180

x=180-110

x=70°
