The sum of the digits of a two digit number is 3. If the digits are reversed the new number is 9 less than the number. What is the number?

It can be solved by simple mathematical equations.

Lets say the digits of the no are x and y.

x+y =3 ( no is yx)

If digits are reversed then new no. is 9 smaller than original no.

So… xy +9 =yx

yx can be written as 10y+x, and xy can be written as 10x+y

y+10x+9=x+10y

10x-x+9 = 10y -y

9x+9=9y

9=9y-9x

y-x=1

And we already know that …. y+x=3

Solve these 2 equations. y-x=1 and y+x=3

y =x+1 ( from eq.1)

y=3-x (from eq.2)

x+1 = 3-x

2x=2

x=1

y=2

Ans 21
