A tyre has two punctures . The first punctures alone would have made the tyre flat in 9 minutes and the second alone would have done it in 6 minutes. If air leaks out at a constant rate, how long does it take both the punctures together to make it flat?

 \textbf {Hey there, here is the solution.}

.............................................................................................

.

First puncture takes 9 mins to flatten the tyre

⇒ 1 m = 1/9 of the tire

Second puncture takes 6 mins to flatten the tyre

⇒ 1 m = 1/6 of the tire

.

Together,

1 min = 1/9 + 1/6 = 5/18 of the tire

.

Time needed for flatten out the tire:

5/18 of the tire = 1 min

1/18 of the tire = 1/5 min

18/18 0f the tire = 1/5 x 18 = 3.6 mins

.

Answer: It takes 3.6 mins for to flatten the tire.

.
