A U tube is first partially filled with mercury. Then water is added in one arm and
oil is added in the other arm. Find the ratio of water and oil columns so that
mercury level is same in both the arms of U tube (density of water = 10kg/m3,
density of oil= 500kg/m3)

Volume of the water=volume of oil

for water

m/v = 10

or, v=10/m

for oil

m/v=500

or,v= 500/m So, the ratio of water column to the oil column is _

10/m:500:m

= 10:500

=1:50

(Ans): 1:50
