Adjectives and their types:

  • Adjectives are the describing words or qualities in a sentence.
  • It always describes and adds information to a noun. An adjective describes a noun in simple words.
  • For example, "He is beautiful and young". Here, the noun is he and it is described as young and beautiful. So those are our adjectives.
  • All the adjectives are taken out in each of the sentences by asking questions about the noun.
  • Some common types of adjectives include quantitative and qualitative adjectives. Quantitative adjectives are adjectives where numbers are expressed in quantity. As we had in the example (5) & (8).
  • Whereas, qualitative adjectives are where qualities are described about a person or a thing. They are also called descriptive adjectives. For example, 'healthy', 'loving' & 'rare' in examples (3),(6), & (7).
  • Interrogative adjectives are adjectives used to ask questions to the noun. As we see in example (4) where the book is addressed a question using the interrogative adjective 'which'.
  • A distributive adjective distributes the noun in words such as 'ever', 'any', etc. One example is sentence (1).
  • Lastly, the adjectives used to show possession over something or someone are possessive adjectives. One can get confused between a pronoun and a possessive adjective. (2)nd sentence is an example of this kind of adjective.
