A uniform chain of length 2m is kept on atable such that a length of 60 cm hangs freely from the edge of the table . the total mass of the chain is 4kg. what is the work done in pulling the entire chain on to the table? (g=10m/s2).

Centre of mass of that 60cm chain handing from the table is at 30cm below the surface of table.

Mass of this 60cm chain = (60/200) * 4 = 1.2kg

So work done = increase in gravitational Potential energy of chain = mgh = 1.2*10*0.3 = 3.6J
