Given info : A uniform electric field is created by two parallel plates separated by a distance of 0.04 m.

To find : the magnitude of the electric field established between the plates is ..

solution : we know, electric field is negative of rate of change of potential with respect to position.

i.e., E = -∆V/∆x

so magnitude of electric field, |E| = ∆V/∆x

see diagram,

potential difference between the plates = ∆V = 40V - (-40V) = 80 V

separation between them, ∆x = 0.04 m

so, electric field, |E| = 80/0.04 = 2,000 V/m

Therefore the correct option is (C) 2,000 V/m
