A uniform electric field of magnitude E=100N/C exist in the space in x direction .Using the gauss's theorem calculate the flux of this field through a plane square of area of edge 10cm placed in yz plane.Take the normal along the x axis to be positive

  • Here we are given the value of the electric field to be 100 N/C .

Area = 0.1 × 0.1

       = 0.01 m²

  • The direction of the field is along the x-axis.

     The square is in the y-z plane, therefore the area of the square will be    directed along the x-axis.

We have to find the flux

The formula to be used will be

Ф = EAcosθ

As the area and field are in the same direction the angle between them will be 0.

So, now putting the values in the formula

Ф= 100 × 0.01 × cos0°

   = 1 weber
