A uniform wire having resistance 1 ohm per metre is bent in form of a rectangle of side 8 metre and 2 metre.Calculate the effective resistance across its (a) longer side, (b) shorter side, and, and (c) diagonal.​

Resistance of the wire = 1 Ohm

Rectangular side = 8m and 2m;

Therefore , total rectangular length = 8+2+8+2 =20 m

Resistance is proportional to length

20 m length resistance = 1 Ohm

Length = 8m long resistance = 1 x 8/20 = 2/5 = 0.4 Ohms

Width = 2m long resistance = 1 x2/20 = 1/20 = 0.1 Ohm

Diagonal side is length + breadth combined — [ IF NOT Shorted ] = 10 m ;

Therefore the resistance of the diagonal =0.4+0.1 = 0.5 Ohms
