Haniwa means "clay ring". That were figures made from clay and were standing round tomb of lord called kofun. Haniwa were made in kofun period. They are statues of knights, ladies, dancers, hunters, birds, monkeys, horses and more. Statues have two parts. Lower one has shape of cylinder and it is buried in ground. Higher one stick out from ground and it is a statue.
Haniwa had probably religious meanind. They protected dead from bad ghosts and served him.
Since its made from clay and clay is very fine-grained soil, i would go with A.
