the kinetic energy between the molecules increases and the inter molecular attraction decreases .....thus the molecules move apart increasing their intermolecular space.

Explanation:

the phase is reversible....ice can be change to water and vapour by heating and so on cooling we can get back ice.Since it is reversible we call it physical change.
