On 22nd January 1946,The Cabinet Mission came to India with the intention to discuss the transfer of power from the British government to the Indian leadership with the view of keeping India's unity intact and granting independence .
The decision to send the Mission was taken on 19th February 1946 by the British PM C.R Attlee .
The mission was headed by three British Cabinet members Lord Pethick-Lawrence, the Secretary of State for India, Sir Stafford Cripps, President of the Board of Trade, and A. V. Alexander, the First Lord of the Admiralty
