Given:

  • Initial velocity,u = 5 m/s

  • Final velocity,v = 25 m/s

  • Time taken, t = 5 s

To be calculated:

Calculate the acceleration?

Formula used:

Acceleration, a = Change in velocity/Time taken

Solution:

a = v - u / t

Now, Putting the values of initial velocity, final velocity and time taken in the above formula,we get

Acceleration, a = 5 - 25 / 5

Acceleration, a = -20 / 5

Acceleration, a = - 4 m/s²

Thus, the acceleration of van is - 4 m/s².

( The negative sign of acceleration means that it is retardation. )

Additional information:

★ Velocity: Distance travelled by a body per unit time is given direction is called velocity.

★ Acceleration: Rate of increase in velocity with time.

★ Retardation: Rate of decrease in velocity with time.
