To Find
the value of y when x = 54
Solution:
It is given that variable x varies directly as the cube of another variable y
So, x ∝ y³
⇒ x = ky³ ..(i) [ k ≠ 0 ]
It is given that y= 3 when x= 4
So,
⇒ y= kx³
⇒ 3= k(4)³ [from (i)]
⇒ 64k= 3
k= 64/3
So, now equation (i) becomes
⇒ y= 64/3 x³
⇒ x³= 6.75y ..(ii)
now when y= 54
from equation (ii)
⇒ x³ = 6.7 × 54
⇒ x³ = 361.8
⇒ x = 7.1
Therefore, x= 7.1 when y= 54.
