Given:

m = 10 kg

u = 2 m/s

v = 1 m/s

s = 10 m

To Find:

Force F.

Solution:

Using the third equation of motion,

 {v}^{2}  =  {u}^{2} + 2as

 {1}^{2}  =  {2}^{2}  + 2(a)(10)

1 = 4 + 20a

20 a = -3

a = -3/10

Force F = ma

F = 10 × (-3/10)

F = -3 N

Negative sign indicates that a force of 3N should be applied in the opposite direction of the motion.

Force that is to be applied on the vehicle so that the vehicle have a velocity of 1 m/s after traveling a distance of 10m is 3 N.
