a = (v² - u²) / (2 × S)
= (1² - 4²) / (2 × 20)
= -0.375 m/s²

F = ma
= 20 kg × (-0.375 m/s²)
= -7.5 N
(-ve sign indiactes Force should be applied in opposite direction of motion of body)

Magnitude of Force to be applied is 7.5 N

The value of the force applied is -7.5 N.

Step-by-step process

Given:

Mass of the body= 20 kg

The velocity= 4ms^{-1}

To find= the force

Solution:

We know that

f= ma

So a= f÷m

a= f÷20

Using the equation of motion,

v^{2}-u^{2}  = 2as

Putting the values.

1^{2} -4^{2}= 2as

1-16= 2×f×20÷20

SO,

2f= -15

f= -7.5 N

The negative sign indicates that the force applied decreases.

Result:

Thus, the value of the force applied is -7.5 N.
