A vehicle of mass 800Kg & moving with a velocity of 12m/s strikes another vehicle of mass 500kg moving with 9m/sec in same direction. Both the vehicle gets coupled together due to impact. Find common velocity with which two vehicles will move?

Answer:

momentum of 1st vehicle =800×12=9600kgm/s

momentum of 2nd vehicle =500×9=4500kgm/s

(both momentum will be positive because both vehicles are moving in same direction)

net momentum =9600+4500=14100kgm/s

net mass =800+500=1300kg

common velocity=14100÷1300=10.84m/s
