A vendor bought toffees at 6 for a rupee.

cost price of  6 tofees = 1 rs

he must sell at 20%gain

lets recall a formula

=> selling price = c.p *100 +gain / 100

=>1 *100+120/100

=>120/100

=>6/5 rupees

selling price of 6 toffees  must be 6/5 rs for 20%gain

=>selling prcie of 1 tofee for 20%gain

=>  6*5/6

=>30/6

=>5 rs

Given:

Cost price of 6 toffees=Rs 1

Gain=20%

To find:

Number of toffees sell in Rs 1 to  to gain 20%

Solution:

Cost price of 6 toffees=Rs 1

Cost price of 1 toffee= Rs1/6

Let S.P of 1 toffee=x

We know that

S.P=\frac{100+gain}{100}\times C.P

Using the formula

x=\frac{(100+20)}{100}\times \frac{1}{6}

x=\frac{120}{100}\times \frac{1}{6}

x=Rs 0.2

Selling price of 1 toffee=Rs 0.2

In Rs 0.2 , toffees can sell=1

In Rs 1, toffees can sell==\frac{1}{0.2}=\frac{10}{2}=5

Hence, he sell 5 toffees for a rupee to gain 20%.
