Time taken to walk both ways would have been 13 hrs

1) Let the speed of cycle be x and walking speed be y

2) And the distance be z km

3) When vendor walks and then cycle back.

Total time taken = z/x + z/y hrs

Given time = 10 hrs

z/x + z/y = 10

4) When he cycles both routes, time taken is 3 hr less = 7 hrs

z/x + z/x = 7

z/x = 3.5

5) Substituting in first equation, 3.5 + z/y = 10

z/y = 6.5 hrs

Time taken to cover one way route on walk is 6.5 hrs

Time taken to walk both ways  = 6.5 *2 = 13 hrs
