A verandah 1.25m wide is constructed all along the outside of the room 5.5m long and the 4m wide. find the cost of cementing in the floor of the verandah at the rate of rupees 15per sq m?

  • Length of room = 5.5 m
  • Width of room = 4 m
  • Width of verandah = 1.25m
  • Cost of cementing of verandah = Rs 15 per m²

To Find :-

  • Area of verandah
  • Cost of cementing of verandah

Formula to be used :-

  • Area of Rectangle = Length × width

Solution :-

Area of the room = Length × width

Area of the room = 4 × 5.5 = 22 m²

Area of the verandah with room

= (5.5 + 1.25 + 1.25) × (4 + 1.25 + 1.25)

= 8 × 6.5

= 52

Area of verandah = Area of room with verandah — Area of room  

Area of verandah = 52 m² - 22 m²

Area of verandah = 30 m²

Cost of cementing of verandah = Area × Rate

Cost of cementing of verandah = Rs 15 × 30m²

Cost of cementing of verandah = Rs 450

Hence, the cost of cementing the floor of this verandah is Rs 450.
