A verandah of width 2.25 m is constructed all along outside a room which is 5.5 m long and 4 m wide . Find:


i) the area of the verandah

ii) the cost of cementing the floor of the verandah at the rate of $200 per metre square .​

(1)width of verandah = 22.5 m

length of the room = 5.5 m

and width of the room = 4 m

now,Area of smaller room = 5.5 m× 4 m

=22 m^2

Now, length of bigger room =( 2.25+2.25+5.5)

= 11 m

And,width of bigger room =( 22.5+22.5+4)m

= 9.50 m

therefore, Area of bigger room = (11×9.50)m^2

=104.50 m^2

Hence,Area of verandah = (104.50-22)m^2

=82.5m^2

(2)Total cost of cementing the floor of verandah =(82.5 × 200)

=16,500 rupees
