A verandah of width 2.25 m is constructed all along outside a room which is 5.5 m long and 4 m . Find :

[i] the area of the verandah
[ii] the cost of cementing the floor of the verandah at the rate of rs. 200 per m²

area of room=5.5×4=22.0m^2

area of room + verandah= (5.5+2.25+2.25)×(4+2.25+2.25) = 85m^2

therefore area of verandah only = 85-22= 63

and cost of cementing the floor = 63×200=12600

Area of full figure

Area = length × breadth


Now length = 5.5 + 2.25 + 2.25

                   = 5.5 + 4.5

                   = 10


breadth = 4 + 2.25 + 2.25

             = 4 + 4.5

             = 8.5


Area = 10 × 8.5

        = 85


Area of room

Area = length × breadth

        = 5.5 × 4

        = 22


Area of verandah = 85 - 22

                              = 63


ANSWER :

63 m² is the area of verandah .


Cost of cementing is Rs 200 per 1 m²

For 63 m² , cost will be Rs 200 × 63

                                    = Rs 12600


ANSWER :

Rs 12600 is required
