A verandah of width 3 m is constructed all along outside a room which is 6 m long and 5 m wide.
Find:
(a) the area of the verandah.
(b) the cost of cementing the floor of the verandah at the rate of 205

Explanation:

First find the area of the verandah including the room

To find the area we must first find the length and breadth of it, which is, the length of the room plus six, which is the double of three.

Therefore, length of the verandah = 6 + 6 = 12

Breadth of the verandah = 5 + 6 = 11

Area of the verandah = 12 into 11, which is 132 meter squared.

Calculate the area of the room next.

= 6 into 5

= 30 meter squared.

Area of the verandah = 132-30

                                     = 102 meter squared

b)  Cost of cementing the floor is, 102 into 205=  20,910
