Given data : A verandah of width 3 m is constructed all along outside a room which is 6 m long and 5 m wide.

To find : The area of the varandah ?

Solution :

  • Length of room with varandah = 6 + 3 + 3 = 12 m
  • Breadth of room with varandah = 5 + 3 + 3 = 11 m

Now, area of room with varandah :

⟹ Area = length * breadth

⟹ Area = 12 * 11

⟹ Area = 132 m²

∴ Area of room with varandah is 132 m².

Now, area of room :

⟹ Area = length * breadth

⟹ Area = 6 * 5

⟹ Area = 30 m².

Now, to find area of varandah :

⟹ Area of varandah = {area of room with varandah} - {area of room}

⟹ Area of varandah = 132 - 30

⟹ Area of varandah = 112 m²

Answer : Hence, the area of the varandah is 112 m².
