Given data : A verandah of width 4.75 m is constructed all along outside of a room which is 20.5 m long and 15.5 m wide.

To find : (a) the area of verandah.

(b) the cost of putting the tiles in the verandah the rate of 20 per m² ?

Solution : Let, the shape of room be rectangular.

For room : {according to given}

→ Length ( L ) = 20.5 m

→ Breadth ( B ) = 15.5 m

Now, we find area of rectangular room :

→ Area of rectangular room

= Length * Breadth

→ Area of rectangular room

= 20.5 * 15.5

→ Area of rectangular room

= 317.75 m²

For room with verandah : {according to given}

→ Length ( L ) = {20.5 + 4.75} m

→ Breadth ( B ) = {15.5 +4.75} m

Now, we find area of rectangular room with verandah :

→ Area of rectangular room with verandah

= Length * Breadth

→ Area of rectangular room with verandah

= {20.5 + 4.75} * {15.5 +4.75}

→ Area of rectangular room with verandah

= 25.25 * 20.25

→ Area of rectangular room with verandah

= 511.3125 m²

Now to find area verandah of subtract area of rectangular room from area of rectangular room with verandah,

→ Area verandah = { 511.3125 - 317.75 } m²

→ Area verandah = 193.5625

Now, to find the cost of putting the tiles in the verandah

→ cost of tiles = 193.5625 × 20

→ cost of tiles = {unit} 3871.25

Answer : (a) the area of verandah is 193.5625 m²

(b) The cost of putting the tiles in the verandah the rate of 20 per m² is {unit} 3871.25
