The most precise device is the one having minimum least count...

for example...if we use vernier callipers for measuring length...

.least count of vernier callipers is

=value of a division on main scale/no. of divisions on sliding scale

=1mm/20=5*10(-2)mm

but if we use an optical instrument for measuring length to within a wavelength of light is

5000*10^-10m=10^-6m=10^(-3)mm

hence...the optical instrument is most precise...
