Given :

A Vernier scale consists of 50 divisions on 49 mm spacing

main scale has 49 divisions on 49 mm spacing

To Find : The least count of Vernier Calipers

0.01 mm

0.03 mm

0.015 mm

0.02 mm

Solution:

A Vernier calipers has two scales:

1. The main scale

2.The Vernier scale.

Least count = 1 main scale division - 1 Vernier scale division

main scale has 49 divisions on 49 mm spacing

=>  1 main scale division = 49/49 = 1 mm

Vernier scale consists of 50 divisions on 49 mm spacing

main scale has 49 divisions on 49 mm spacing

50 Vernier scale =  49 Main scale

=> 1 Vernier scale = 49/50 Main scale

Least count = 1 - 49/50  Main scale

main scale =  1mm

Lease count = 1 - 49/50 mm

=> Lease count = 1/50 mm

=> Least count = 0.02 mm

Hence Option 4:   0.02 mm is the correct answer
