Answers

a) length of shadow (x) = 454 cm

b) height of pole (y) = 800cm

Another method:-

you can also sove it by triangle similarities theorems.

hope it helps!!!!!

Solution :-

Draw the figure with the given information

[ Refer to attachment ]

a) Consider ΔABC and ΔPQR

∠B = ∠Q = 90° [ Heights are perpendicular to the ground ]

∠C = ∠R [ AC || PR, all sun rays are parallel at an instance ]

Third angles are also equal

By AAA similarity ΔABC ~ ΔPQR

⇒ AB/PQ = BC/QR [ Corresponding sides of 2 similar triangles ]

⇒ 4.6/9.5 = 2.2/QR

⇒ QR = 2.2 * 9.5/4.6 = 4.54 m ( approximately)

Hence, the length of the shadow is 4.54 m

b) Consider ΔABC and ΔXYZ

Similarly, ΔABC ~ ΔXYZ

⇒ AB/XY = BC/YZ [ Corresponding sides of 2 similar triangles ]

⇒ 4.6/XY = 2.2/4

⇒ 4.6 * 4/2.2 = XY

⇒ XY = 8.36 m ( approximately)

Therefore the length of the pole is 8.36 m
