Vertical Direction means Longitudinal Wave.

Explanation:

Longitudinal Waves -  Parallel direction of individual particles in motion to Direction of Energy transport

In this Question,

  1. A longitudinal wave gets produced when the rod is being hit in a vertical direction.
  2. But when it gets hit in horizontal direction then a Sound wave (Longitudinal Wave) is produced.
  3. But it comes to notice that if in case, the rod gets vibrated then the wave produced is Transverse in nature.
