A vertical section through different layers of the soil is called soil profile.Shyam place pipe about 2 cm deep in the ground. Pour 200 ml water in the pipe slowly . For measuring 200 ml water he can use any empty 200 ml bottle. He note the empty time when he start pouring water. When all the water has percolated leaving the pipe empty, he note the time again.....He calculated the rate of percolation by using the following formula.
Amount of water(ml) Percolation rate (ml/min)=Amount of water percolated (ml)/Percolation time(ml)
Now he start to observe water absorption capacity of soil. For that experiment he took weight of soil=50g . Initial volume of water in the measuring cylinder=u ml. Than he pour water in soil containing funnel and he found final volume of water in the measuring cylinder=vml.
Percentage of water absorbed=(u-v) / weight of soil*100
