A vertical steel column 10 metre high supports a load of 80 metric ton. Taking
Young's modulus for steel to be 2 x 10 kg wt/cm², area of cross-section to be 100 sq
cm and Poisson's ratio to be 0.2 , find the decrease in length and the decrease in volume
of the column when the load is applied.
