A vertical stick 1 m long cast a shadow 50 cm long. At the same time a tower casts a shadow 30m long. Determine the height of the tower.

Let AB be the stick and BC be the shadow

Let DE be the tower abd EF be the shadow


Angle of elevation(theta) in both case will be same since the sun's alt in both cases are same

tan(theta) in case 1 is equal to tan(theta) in case 2

so,

AB/BC = DE/EF

100/50 = DE/30

        2 = DE/30

     DE = 60cm


So, the height of tower is 60cm
