A very short Preface on our environment

Pollution, today, is a burning issue which needs to be tackled on a war footing as India's economic development is moving at a very fast pace. Even though modern, state of the art and advanced technology is not spewing effluents anywhere near the levels older, obsolescent units used to do, we must put in place the checks and balances to monitor and remedy the situation before things go out of control.

India's population continues to rise every day. The Government is trying its best to keep this aspect in check for the economic and social welfare of its masses. Population increase of an undesirable order affects the environment and leads to higher release of pollutants from the domestic sector. One big problem is the killer smoke emanating from automobiles, just as another is release of toxic fumes from age-old methods of cooking. Use of CNG in the rich man's car and LPG in the poor man's kitchen would bring in a sea-change to the environment.

Water, air and the earth need to be protected from effluents and pollutants in a big way if we wish to leave a better India for future generations. In view of this, while the subject of my study is pollution, my study will also analyse the ways of lowering the levels of pollution and suggest remedies to check it in the future. The singular aim of my study is to suggest ways of increasing the oxygen in the atmosphere by reducing the commensurate levels of pollutants, as also making our rivers free of impure and toxic substances, all this while protecting mother earth from further destruction .
