A vessel contain H2 and O2 at 20 bar pressure. H2 and O2 are 4:1 molar ratio in the vessel. Due to an accident a leakage was developed and gases are effusing out. At what molar ratio, the gases are effusing (Assuming that temperature remain constant)
1)16:1
2)8:1
3)4:1
4)1:1

A 4:1 molar mixture of He and CH4 is contained in a vessel at 20 bar pressure. Due to a hole in the vessel, the gas mixture leaks out. What is the composition of the mixture effusing out initially?

A)

Given

Molar ratio of He and CH4 is 4:1

Partial pressure ratio of He and CH4 is 16:4

nHenCH4=MCH4MHe−−−−√×PHePCH4

Since total pressure = 20 bar

=164−−−√×164

Since time of diffusion for both is same

= 8:1

The composition of mixture initially gone out for He and CH4 is 8:1

Hence answer is (c)
