A vessel has two equal compartments a and b containing h2 and o2 respectively each at 1 atm pressure if the wall separating the compartment is removed in pressure

Clearly , the pressure outside the vessel is 1 atm . ( Atmospheric pressure ! )

Also , each compartment separately has 1 atm pressure .

Let the volume of compartment A = Compartment B = X

When the separating wall is removed and we view the system of gases as the full container ,

the total volume of vessel = X + X = 2X

Also , by Dalton's law , we have ;

P ( vessel ) = P ( A ) + P ( B ) = 2 atm .

Hence , for 2X volume , we have the pressure 2 atm considering the vessel as a system .

Hence , the pressure in unit volume ( i.e. X ) , will be ( 2X / 2 ) = X

Hence , the pressure remains unchanged in both after removing wall .
