A vessel of 80 lit res is filled with milk and water. 70% of milk and 30% of water is taken out of the vessel. I t is found that the vessel is vacated by 55%, find the init ial quant ity of water.

X + Y = 80 litres......1

From given ....2

55% of 80 = 30% of X ( water) + 70% of Y (milk)

44= 0.3 X + 0.7 Y

Therefore multiply all by 10

440 = 3 X + 7 Y ....2

Now from 1 and 2 do substitute method therefore multiple first by 3

Therefore 3( x + y ) = 240

= 3x+ 3y= 240......3

Now subtract 3 from 2

440= 3x+ 7y

-. 240=3x+ 3y

= 200= 0 + 4 y

Therefore y= 50 . That is water is 50 litre.
