A vessel of volume 100ml contains 10%O2 90%unknown gas.The gas defusing in 86second through a small vessel.If pure oxygen under the same condition diffuses in 75 second find the molecular mass of unknown gas.

Let M2 and M1 Be the molecular weight of gases,

Molecular weight of gases = 32 .

Molecular weight of gas mixture

= ( 10×32 + 90×m) / 100 .

= 3.2 + 9×m .

we know that ,

r oxygen/ r mixture= √ m mixture/ m oxygen

= 86 /75 = √ 3.2 + 0.9 × m / 32

= m = 46.75 gm
