Sibsagar is a town in Upper Assam, about 360 kilometres north east of Guwahati. It is the district headquarters of the Sivasagar district.It is well known for its Ahom palaces and monuments. Sivasagar is now also an important centre for the tea and oil industries. we have seen too many historical monuments as well as destructions in our visit like sivadol, Rang Ghar, Kareng Ghar, Maidams in charaideo and many more.

Sivadol is a group of structures comprising three Hindu temples of Sivadol, Visnudol and Devidol, other shrines, and a museum. These are located on the banks of the Sivasagar tank, in the heart of Sivasagar, in Assam. The tank was constructed between 1731 and 1738.The height of the Sivadol is 104 feet.

Rang ghar- The Rang Ghar is two-storied building which once served as the royal sports-pavilion where Ahom kings and nobles were spectators at games like buffalo fights and other sports at Rupahi Pathar, particularly during the Rongali Bihu festival in the Ahom capital of Rangpur. It is 3 km away from the center of the Sivasagar Town. Situated by the side of the Assam Trunk Road, it lies to the northeast of the Rangpur Palace, a seven storied royal complex.

Kareng ghar- karng ghar is also known as The Gorgaon Palace, is located in Gorgaon, 15 kilometres from Sivasagar,Of all Ahom ruins, the Kareng Ghar is one of the grandest examples of Ahom architecture. The palace structures were made of wood and stones. In 1747 Pramatta Singha, constructed the brick wall of about 5 kilometres in length surrounding the Gargaon Palace and the masonry gate leading to it.

After the destruction of the old palace it was rebuilt around 1752 by Rajeswar Singha.Rangpur was the capital of the Ahom Kingdom and served as its military-station.

Maidams are tumuli of the royalty and aristocracy of the medieval Ahom Kingdom (1228-1826) in Assam. The royal maidams are found exclusively at Charaideo, near Sibasagar; whereas other maidams are found scattered in the region between Jorhat and Dibrugarh towns. Structurally, a maidam consists of vaults with one or more chambers.The vaults have a domical superstructure that are covered by ahemispherical earthen mound that rises high above the ground with an open pavilion at the peak called chow chali.
