River Ganga originates in the Western Himalayas and flows from there all the way to the East through the Gangetic plains of India passing through the cities like Rishikesh, Haridwar, Kanpur, Pyaragraj, Varanasi, Patna, Bhagalpur, Kolkata and eventually emtying itself into the Bay of bengal near Sagar island.

Therefore, somebody who starts his/her voyage from Varanasi can very well reach Kolkata because River Ganga passes through both the cities flowing continuously from Varanasi to Kolkata.
